about

In 1991 Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette released a book called ‘King, Warrior, Magician, Lover’ that explores the archetypes of masculinity.

North = King - responsible, teacher/mentor, leader, parent, healthy discipline etc.

East = Lover - the sun rises in the east, open hearted, innocent, playful/joyful child (and eventually East is the holy old fool/sage).

West = Magician - creative, storyteller, muse, explosive passion (lava/volcanoes), the shadowlands, wise.

South = Warrior – deeply connected to earth/nature, grounded, wild/free, knows his true self, content to dance bare foot in the forest to one’s own sacred dance.

I was reading another book exploring a very similar concept called 'Wild Mind' by Bill Plotkins and instead of using the term 'Warrior' for South he used the term ‘Wild Indigenous One'.
